James born in 1946 in the then small town of Irvine in north Ayrshire Scotland. learned the basics of how to paint from my father using oils.
Did not paint for many years until found a method of hand painting using an oil painting medium combined with a tablet.

It has taken me some time to reach where I am today painting without limitations as to my choice of subjects from still life and landscapes to portraits, figurative and horse and dance movement.
The style of my artwork is modern yet very traditional inspired by impressionist paintings and influenced by realistic styling to convey character and / or movement of my subjects hopefully allowing the viewer to enjoy a glimpse of the mood.
My intention is to give a fresh perspective emphasizing where possible in a natural vibrancy and rich colours but keeping my pallet fairly restricted.

Hi
My name is James Shepherd and I began my journey into painting from watching my father for many years, he was an oil painter.

My artwork is of mainly traditional subjects painted in the impressionism style and I love to get movement or emotion into my artwork. Hope you enjoy.

Why do I paint.
Because Painting takes me into enjoyable new adventures. There is always something beautiful about the blank canvas which you are going to change the meaning of with your artwork, each one being so uniquely beautiful to your mind. It's a challenge full of learning and new techniques which add to the adventure.  As you indulge deep into your artwork your thoughts change, your emotions change.  I love painting and have to create.

Welcome to my artwork.
The feeling of creating something good is beyond explanation, the building of the painting gives stress relief as you progress and on completion the amazing sense of achievement.
I paint mainly in an impressionist style - which includes: landscapes sea and sky, animals, still life, flowers and plants, female figurative and nude and erotic and people and portraits.
